air-trak.com and WaveWare Plan Palm-based
Version of Wireless Transport for Vehicles
SAN DIEGO, CA - Oct 15, 1999
San Diego, CA - WaveWare Communications and air-trak.com,
both headquartered in San Diego, today announced plans to integrate the
air-trak Messenger system with the Palm Computing connected organizer.
The air-trak Messenger in-vehicle wireless data system provides wireless
data connectivity for portable devices docked in a vehicle. Using a national
wireless data infrastructure, air-trak Messenger transports data to and
from the mobile workforce seamlessly into the corporate SQL database for
desktop access by corporate e-commerce applications. WaveWare's WaveSync,
the premier synchronization server for the Palm Computingâ platform,
enables remote synchronization of Palm data with corporate databases as
well as remote access to electronic mail. WaveSync is particularly efficient
in transporting Palm data over a wireless link, boasting a five-fold speed
increase over Palm's built-in synchronization protocol.
With the combination of WaveSync and air-trak Messenger
products, mobile workers can use the Palm device for a variety of tasks,
such as collecting data, entering orders, reading dispatch orders, accessing
corporate information or reading e-mail. When the worker re-enters his
vehicle between stops, he drops the Palm into the air-trak Messenger cradle
and data is wirelessly exchanged between the corporate server and the Palm.
This enables both the mobile worker and the corporation to work with the
most recent data possible.
Dennis Clark, President of air-trak.com said of the
planned integration: "air-trak Messenger software provides the wireless
link that enables Palm devices to become two-way wireless communication
tools." Martha Dennis, CEO of WaveWare, adds: "WaveSync is the perfect
companion for air-trak Messenger, enabling the extremely popular Palm class
of devices to become essential equipment for the vehicle-based mobile worker."
