WaveWare Communications Launches WaveSync
Synchronization Server
SAN DIEGO, CA - June 21, 1999
WaveWare Communications today announced that it is
shipping WaveSync, the premier synchronization server. WaveSync
enables applications that currently synchronize over the Palm Computing®
platforms HotSync® architecture to synchronize with an enterprise
server. With WaveSync, multiple users can now synchronize multiple
applications simultaneously with a central server from the desktop or remotely
direct to the server.
By introducing this new server, WaveSync transforms
Palm Computing connected organizers into enterprise tools. The WaveSync
package includes a sophisticated, yet easy-to-use management tool for IT
managers to control an entire population of Palm organizers accessing the
enterprise server. Targeting the mobile worker, WaveSync provides
patent-pending Accelerated Synchronization Technology (AST) that can perform
up to five times faster than HotSync technology over standard wireless
and Internet links.
WaveSync performs several communication tasks at
once, all with a single button push. With WaveSync, a typical mobile worker
can update his Palm Computing device with the company phone list, a new
data-collection form, and a new rate-calculation program, while at the
same time updating the enterprise server with data, contacts and customer
appointments he has entered into his handheld.
We are excited to see that WaveWare brings to market
an enterprise-grade synchronization server that supports the ever-growing
family of conduits and applications developed for
the Palm Computing platform" said Gabriel Acosta-Lopez,
Director of Developer Services at Palm Computing, Inc., a 3Com company.
WaveSync adds excellent synchronization server technology by being able
to utilize the same conduit application programming interface
(API) as the one designed for the HotSync technology."
Several partners are working to achieve compatibility
with WaveSync in order to extend their products to the enterprise environment.
Pendragon Software Corporation has announced WaveSync compatibility of
both Pendragon OrderForms, a point-of-sale application, and Pendragon Forms,
the leading data-collection application and development tool for the Palm
Computing platform. Novatel Wireless Inc. has recognized WaveSync
as a leading solution for wireless synchronization using the Novatel Minstrel
III Wireless IP Modem for the Palm Computing platform.
David B. Cook, CTO of WaveWare, says of WaveSync:
Were thrilled to introduce this groundbreaking synchronization server
and transport technology to the market. Sync at lightning speed with
access from anywhere opens the door to untold numbers of new uses for handhelds.
We anticipate that WaveSync will help fuel an explosion in wireless data
utilization.
WaveSync is available from WaveWare Communications,
Inc., at www.waveware.net. Pricing starts at $2,495 for a 10-user
version and $7,495 for a 100-user version. Attractive per-user licensing
is available for larger numbers of users.
